Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Andrea and I are going to be Abseiling/dropping down from the i360 tower in Brighton on Thursday 11th July 2024 with a group of people to raise money for Matilda.

Matilda has cerebral palsy which affects her legs, hands and mobility. She has had numerous surgeries throughout her life to improve her mobility. But as she approaches her 14th birthday there is now a limited amount of time within the natural growth period for final surgeries to take place so she can keep her mobility and most importantly her independence going into her adult life. No thirteen year old girl should have to worry about losing their mobility

Despite all the pain she’s in she remains extremely positive and happy. Matilda still manages to keep up with her friends by walking short distances, however she often uses a wheelchair and walker. This hurts her because her hamstrings are tight and painful all the time. sometimes Matilda walks with a crouch which causes problems for her hips and back. Her balance and posture are affected which causes Matilda to fall over and her knees to be constantly cut and bruised. Matilda is in constant pain, she struggles to sleep and has to take a lot of medication to relax her muscles.

To set Matilda up in the best way for adult life and to keep her walking independently she needs to have surgery on her hamstrings to lengthen them, this will help stop the pain, relieve pressure on her back and most importantly - keep her walking. She has already embarked on growth plate surgery earlier this year to again, relieve pressure on her back and to help align her hips.

The reason I am fundraising is because the surgery Matilda needs is unavaliable to her on the NHS. She needs to go back to a private doctor in the US who has successfully carried out previous surgeries which have improved her Cerebral palsy massively and most importantly to KEEP MATILDA WALKING.

Please donate as much as you can 🙏.

Thankyou.
