Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Simon on the Streets is an independent charity that works with those who have complex needs and cannot or will not access other services. Within that group the focus is on people who are homeless and rootless, especially those with issues related to rough sleeping.
Having met Helen through networking, she has really opened my eyes and can hand on heart say, to things that I have either ignored or felt little empathy for in the past. I have seen the great work they do first hand through their soup run and can see how their Support Workers develop strong relationships to help their service users improve their lives.
The aim of the charity is to bring people leading solitary harmful lives, with little or no vision for a better future in from the margins of society. The charity will achieve this by supporting people to find aspirations and giving unlimited opportunities to achieve sustainable positive change.
The support is offered on an entirely outreach basis and is not time limited. The approach taken with service users is to recognise emotional support as a high value offering and to understand that building a quality relationship with service users will underpin any support given.
Most people who fit the above criteria will lack the motivation for positive change; workers will never allow this to be a barrier to engagement and will always seek to build this motivation. The charity recognise that positive change will often be slow to achieve and commits to ensuring that at times of slow change / no change it will not allow efforts to decrease.
As you know, I like my home comforts so sleeping on the streets of Leeds is not going to be easy. Please help me to raise money for the great work they do and make my sleep out worthwhile.
