 I’m really excited to tell you that I have been selected to volunteer overseas with VSO. I will be going to Ghana with a group of volunteers to work with local communities, one of our missions will be to improve the livelihoods and well-being of the community. Through this project VSO seeks to increase cocoa production and provide alternative markets for cocoa, therefor, we will be providing training in areas such as soap making and tie dying amongst other things as an alternative way for the community to use their local produce.

VSO and ICS work with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of VSO and their ICS partners. ICS sends youth volunteers, such as myself, to the developing world to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities.
