Ok........ I've made a grand total of 3% of my online charity fund for diabetes. Would ANYBODY be so kind to donate to a worthy charity, please?

Greetings Guys & Girls!! Thanks for visiting my justgiving page

On 16th September 2012, I am running the Great North Run....YES, ME, Michaela Newton, running The Great North Run. The largest half marathon in the world..... I haven't ran for years, Infact, pretty much the only time I go running is when the ice cream van is pulling away.

So, a huge shock to the system It will be when out comes the bumb bag, on goes the fluorescent lycra (lovely) .... bye bye miss lazy, my mascara runs faster than me...0 fitness level mole...and say hello half-marathon winner (ish) of Great North Run 2012.

My chosen charity is Diabetes UK, Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes.

Each & every person living with diabetes deserves the best treatment and services. No one can argue with that, which is why I will be running on fumes, blisters on ones no toe-nailed feet, muscles cramping for fun to cross that finish line.

Diabetes is a common life-long health condition. There are a massive 2.9 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and an estimated 850,000 people who have the condition but don’t know it.

Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. This is because your pancreas does not produce any insulin, or not enough, to help glucose enter your body’s cells – or the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance).

DID YOU KNOW.....

·         80 per cent of people with diabetes will die from cardiovascular disease.

·         People with diabetes are two to three times more likely to have a stroke compared to those without the condition.

·         1,000 people with diabetes start kidney dialysis every year in the UK.

·         Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in working age in the UK.

·         The rate of lower limb amputation in people with diabetes is 15 times higher than people without diabetes.

 Diabetes UK Help by...

· Effectively controlled Type 2 diabetes can reduce the risk of

o    Heart Disease by 44%

o    Stroke by 46%

o    Kidney Disease by 33%

o    Eye Disease by 33%

Nothing can prevent someone developing Type 1 diabetes. But Diabetes UK encourages people to make lifestyle choices so their likelihood of getting Type 2 diabetes reduces.

My plan is to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with my head, the middle part with my personality, and the last part with my heart.

So please dig deep and donate to a worthy cause. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
