Enhancing independence and quality of life for people with disabilities through custom-trained Assistance Dogs.

Story

During this season of giving. I’m inviting you to take part in a fund raiser for Pause With a Cause. ( PAWS)

PAWS is a non profit organization that breeds, raises and trains dogs for people with disabilities, at no cost to them.

My husband Pete, now deceased, and I have been volunteers for many years . We have raised 14 puppies and whelped 13 puppies in our kitchen.

I know first hand how a trained dog can change the life of someone with a hearing disability. We raise small breed dogs, mostly Papillions, who are trained to become HEARING dogs. Over the years we have been fortunate to  meet Clients who have a puppy we raised.

Can you imagine the fear you would experience if you couldn’t hear a smoke detector in the middle of the night that was alerting you to a fire ? A hearing
dog is trained to alert a hearing impaired person , and lead them to safety.
Suppose you have a baby or young child who is crying in their bed and you can’t hear them. A hearing dog is trained to alert to that sound and take you to the crying child. This one might surprise you. You are driving along and the siren of a fire truck or ambulance goes off. Yes, a hearing dog is trained to let the client know by tapping on their shoulder, letting them know to stop or pull over. I’m sure that training has prevented many an accident.

Please think of the people who need your help as you make your donation. I know they will be appreciative and so will I.
