Story
COPS provides peer support opportunities and access to counselling services to help surviving family members (‘survivors’) rebuild their shattered lives."Your loss is a part of who you are but COPS helps you realise that it doesn’t define you. We are all one big family."Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty.
My dad, Police Constable Alan McMurray, was killed on February 4th 2006 whilst on duty after he was struck by a vehicle whilst assisting at an investigation. Care Of Police Survivors have supported my family and me since 2006 and have continued to show immense support for other families of fallen officers throughout their 17 years of existence.
I will be running 13 x 5Ks in honour of my dad's 13 years of service with Lothian and Borders Police. With each run, I will be running for a different fallen officer and their family.
The target of this challenge is £418.20 as my dad's collar number in the police was 4182.
COPS continue to have a large place in my heart for all the opportunities it has offered me since I was barely 2, whether it was to make new friends with other survivors within the kids groups, or whether it was to link me to support for my mental wellbeing. COPS has given me a new direction in life since my dad's passing and this challenge will be my special way of showing my gratitude towards the incredible charity.
