Story
Hello everyone! My name is Katie and I'm 11 years old and my dad age 33.
I have a goal to raise money for The Brain Tumour Research. I have experienced a lot of heartache over the last 3 years of my life due to my wonderful, brave and loving dad.
He was diagnosed with a DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) in his brainstem in 2017 and given 2-3 years to live. A DIPG has very little research and it is very rare in adults. There's no cure.
I felt very upset when i was told that my dad has brain cancer. I didn't understand what it meant at first but over time I wanted to know more about it. I was given a book called The Secret C, as my mom and dad found it hard to explain to me that my dad could lose his life. When I learnt that it was more serious than I thought, in my eyes it suddenly became worse and worse. One night I had a an uncontrolled breakdown and I cried for hours, not knowing if my dad would be around when I grow up. Everyday since then I have wondered if my dad will survive this week, this month or this year. I have seen my dad slowly deteriorate for so long, last year he could talk, walk and stay awake, now he can't walk, talk or even open his own eyes. I love my dad so much and I can't deal or even cope with seeing him this way.
I'm telling you this as a long story short.... Missing out the scary operations he had and the gruelling chemo and radiotherapy i saw him go through. My dad, my family and I have been through so much. I wish to share my story so I can try and help my dad and help other families going through the same. I would like to raise awareness of this life disrupting disease by shaving all my hair off and donating it to someone who needs it more than I do. My dad is such a lovely man I just wish he could get better and see him get old.
