Fundraising for Nottingham University Hospitals Charity
I'm taking part in the QMC Abseil 2021 to raise funds for Nottingham's Hospitals Charity ZEPHYRS. As many of you are aware our first daughter Charlie was dead at our 20 week scan. She had avsd (holes in her heart) and suspected Edwards disorder which is usually incompatible with life. I gave birth to her two days later and she is buried at Tithe Green. The pain you experience losing a child is the worst ever imaginable and it takes years to recover. We quickly discovered Zephyr's charity which was still being set up at the time; and Carly and Martin Zephyr's parents quickly supported us. The baby loss community literally held us and helped us to love again. Neil and I became heavily involved in the charity and since losing Charlie we have helped decorate the centre, raised money and I now run Hope- pregnancy after a loss group which gives peer support to those pregnant again which can be an anxious journey. We now have Grace but we will never forget our first born and the life lessons she taught us or the people who helped us along the way. The money we raise will support Zephyrs to continue giving high quality support and counselling to those bereaved, provide keepsakes, peer support and a calm retreat for those who understand the loss of a child. Zephyrs is an unique charity which doesn't exist in every city and it should because it really is a postcode lottery when it comes to bereavement support.
