Story
In just over 2 months time, on Sunday 22nd April 2012, I will be attempting, along with my sister, to run the 26.2 mile course that is the London Marathon! A feat that I'm not sure my legs, knees...infact my entire body is going to particularly enjoy but one that is a challenge for a very worthy cause.
I'm going to be running for a charity called Help the Hospices. This organisation provides vital and invaluable support and care across the UK for patients, their families and staff who are involved in end of life care.
9 years ago, after a short battle with cancer, my wonderful Mum was cared for in a local hospice just outside Bath called Dorothy House (for whom my sister is running). This amazing place provided her with the most dedicated and caring set of people I have ever come across, in a beautiful and peaceful environment, and made a very difficult time just that bit more bearable for all of us.
£1.4 million is spent on hospice care every day in the UK and they receive on average only 34% of their funding from the Government.
A quarter of a million patients a year receive hospice care and the hospices throughout the UK rely on 100,000 volunteers each year who are worth approximately £112 million.
That is why it is such an amazing charity to support and why I have pledged to raise £2000 for them to contribute to their continued work. Therefore I would be hugely grateful, if, for my efforts you can make any donation that you are able to.
