Story
Anxiety. Depression. Panic. Trauma. Most of us know at least one person who suffers from one of these. Every day, millions of children and adults experience mental health challenges that interfere with their everyday life. The stigma surrounding the topic of mental health often invokes shame and can prevent people then from getting the help they need. Through powerful words, inspiring stories and action we can help to end the stigma. Together, we can create a world where members of our community feel empowered and brave when they talk about their struggles. 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 5 children face a mental health challenge. KidsTLC has launched their first annual Champion Campaign to highlight mental health awareness month! Together, we can set an example for the next generation of children, and create a community where vulnerability isn't seen as a weakness, but celebrated as an act of courage.
I'm both excited and honored to say that I was asked to be a Champion! I personally was first introduced to KidsTLC in high school when one of my school clubs took time to come paint a classroom. I learned a little about the program, but then left Olathe and headed to college. Early in my career, a friend of mine asked me to attend a happy hour focused on the non-profit that she worked for. I have to admit, I didn't know much about the event, just that I was going to support a friend. That night, I learned about the continued needs at KidsTLC, and was reminded of the time I'd visited years before. Not long after, I was asked to join their Young Advisory Board. I've volunteered and helped fundraise for the last several years.
In the current landscape of stay at home orders and virus prevention, the needs at KidsTLC have not slowed down. In fact, there are more needs now than there have been previously. I'm asking friends to donate to this campaign to help ease their burden in this crazy time. Big or small, all donations are helpful and greatly appreciated!
Join us as we unite to raise funds and awareness in our effort to end the stigma around mental health!
