The Brooke is a very special charity because it helps both animals and the humans who rely on them for their existence.

Horses, donkeys and mules are the engines that power the developing world.  Around 100 million of them labour on country roads, tracks, fields, farms, factories and in city centres.  They transport a huge range of loads from people, produce, food and water to building materials such as bricks and even iron girders.

In times of famine keeping a family's horse, donkey or mule alive and capable of work can be a key factor in the human survival and in ensuring that families can rebuild their lives when the crisis has passed.

The Brooke provides free veterinary care in addtion to educational material and access to essential services and resources.

The Brooke currently reaches more than 742,000 donkeys, horses and mules worldwide, benefiting more than 4 million people who rely on these animals.

Many more working equines and their owners are in need of help.
