Story
Sierra Leone, which was ranked the world’s poorest country in 2008, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year following 50 years of independence. However, following the end of its brutal civil war, it still faces the daunting challenge of reconstruction. More than half of the population is under 18 years of age and only 40% of its people are literate. Furthermore, it is estimated that more than 48,000 children are living and working on its streets without the support of any family or an education.
That is why, sharing the same anniversary, Kiln has decided to sponsor this groundbreaking marathon in Makeni, Sierra Leone. The money raised will provide a desperately needed financial boost to enable the charity to build 50 schools, reunite 500 girls and 500 boys with their families, and support 5,000 impoverished street children through education. It will also empower the people of Sierra Leone to help themselves and develop their economy, ensuring that future generations suffer less hardship and turmoil.
This is an exciting opportunity for the insurance market to play its own small part in supporting Sierra Leone on its road to prosperity. Your help, through your sponsorship of the runners, your decision to run yourself or your donations, will be greatly appreciated. On behalf of the Finance Team at Kiln, thank you.
