Early in 2008 my husband and I went along to the hospital for my 20 week scan not knowing that the next few hours would be some of the worst of our lives.  My baby was unfortunately very poorly and was unlikely to survive to full term.  She had a very low chance of surviving the birth and an even lower chance of surviving her first few days of life outside the womb.  My world was turned upside down.

I was lucky enough to have an incredibly supportive family and a fantastic bunch of friends who I could turn to in my hour of need.  Had I have known about SANDS at the time, I may well have turned to them also for further support and understanding.  A good friend of mine (I'm with her in the picture) experienced the sad death of her premature baby just a month into his little life.  SANDS was there for her and her husband and they have become key players in the Bristol SANDS Charity.

I've been amazed by how many people who I know have been through the loss of a child or still birth.  SANDS really helps thoses people not just in the sad time straight after their child's death but ongoing throughout their lives and through any further pregnancies that they might have.
