Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Both of us have always loved mountains. In 2006 we had the wonderful experience of trekking to Everest Base Camp and during this time we decided to mark our 50 birthdays by going to Ecuador and climbing Cotopaxi which with a height of 5897metres (19347 ft) is the highest live volcano in the world, and Chimborazo, a peak that although it is 6268.2 metres (20565.0 ft), if you measure it from the centre of the Earth it is even higher than Everest. Both these facts totally captured our imagination. Our plans were well advanced when I received the devastating news that I had breast cancer. I needed immediate surgery and treatment, followed by a slow period of recovery. Our trip was cancelled, but we never gave up on the idea that one day we would climb those mountains together.
3 years later, I am lucky enough to have been given a clean bill of health and we are going to fulfil our dream and climb those two peaks. My experience brought home to me the fact that cancer is a very common disease that can strike anyone when you least expect it. We all have friends and family that have struggled with cancer and Blanca and I would like to dedicate this trip to them all.
We want to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan is a wonderful organisation that offers practical and emotional support to people living with cancer and campaigns to improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer. We would like to ask you to give generously to support their work. Blanca and I are paying for this trip ourselves so all the money you donate will go directly to the charity.
