Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I had a great run on Sunday 31 May at the Edinburgh Half Marathon. I was a bit nervous because my gluteus medius muscle has been very tight for the last 6 months, and I thought I might have to walk or pull out at some point because of the pain. As it was, the muscle hurt until mile 10, and then the pain went away. Now that I'm resting and it's the evening, I'm feeling exhausted and can barely walk. I've been told not to run for 2 months now, so I was delighted with my time of 1 hour 48 minutes (I wasn't going for any particular time, but this was a nice surprise). Thanks so much to all of you who have kindly donated to MacMillan Cancer Support; your sponsorship really helped me to get around the course.
In November 2013, just ten days after getting married, my youngest sister was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer. She had chemotherapy treatment for six months, followed by radiotherapy, which finished in July 2014. Since then, thanks to our brilliant NHS and advances in modern medicine, her hair has grown back, and she is adjusting to her 'new normal' as a cancer survivor. She continued to run while while undergoing treatment, and now averages around 12 miles a week. She also does yoga, goes swimming, and enjoys an active and happy life. We all think she is amazing! To honour her battle with cancer, and to help others (especially young people) who are afflicted with this unforgiving disease, I ran the Edinburgh Half Marathon on 31 May to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and am seeking sponsorship. Your donation will mean so much to my sister and to all people battling cancer in the UK.
