Story
In October 2018, I lost my energetic, bubbly and sun-shining mum to the brutal disease that is ovarian cancer. Without warning, this illness took hold and my dear mum lost her fight in just 5 weeks at the age of only 65.
In the last few days of my mums life, I told her I’d run a marathon for all the women who are suffering with ovarian cancer and her words were “Maybe just a half”
I’m not a runner. I struggled to catch the 284 on a Monday morning but I vowed to start training on Mother’s Day 2019. Since then, I’ve completed the virtual London marathon in 2020 and the official London marathon 2021. Now I’m listening to mums advice and completing a half.
Ovarian cancer is the 6th most common cancer for women in the UK. Approximately 7,500 women are diagnosed each year and it’s often referred as ‘the silent killer’ as symptoms can be unrecognisable and often once detected it’s too late.
I continue my mission to raise awareness, hope and money to one day allow women to be tested earlier and in time, eradicate this devastating cancer for good.
Anything you can spare, myself and my family will be eternally grateful.
