Story
Our dad was a complete action hero - he windsurfed, ran, parachuted, and bungee jumped his way into the hearts of everyone he met, and we miss him every day.
The date of this run falls on the weekend that we lost our dad last June, he also ran this race himself many years ago - so it seemed like a good idea to enter myself into this race in his memory, and now my brother is also running it with me - which dad would have loved even more.
The run is 10k, from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle, most of which is up hill, it's grueling, and it's going to be very very hard. Dad would probably expect me to get lost doing it as I've never been athletic, I certainly haven't run in a race for at least 16yrs, and apart from running after his children Duncan too is as out of shape as I. So we need encouragement, and that's where you come in. To keep us going through our training, and throughout the race itself we need to know we're doing it so someone else in the future doesn't have to go through what this cancer put our dad and our family through.
Pleomorphicsarcoma, is an unspeakable cruel cancer, and typical of my dad it's not just rare, but a rare form of a rare disease, it doesn't react to chemotherapy or radiation in the same way other cancers do. Sarcoma UK support the research into all Sarcoma's - which are a type of cancer that doesn't get much coverage or funding, but it can affect anyone at any age. So whatever you give, however small or large counts, and we'll of course be incredible grateful for your support.
Thank you xxx p.s. I will hopefully be starting a blog to keep you up to date on my progress. If you're friends with me on Facebook and see that i've gone on a run, press the 'like' button and it tell's my headphones to give a little cheer to me, and that's just lovely!
