Story
Hi,
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
I am a single mum of Hannah (9) and Mhairi (7) who has decided to pull up her big girl pants, pull on the lycra and join thousands of other nutters to enjoy the impressive monuments and sights of Glasgow at a faster-than-walking-pace on October 2nd, 2016 on this amazing and televised!!! event called the Great Scottish Run.
I am taking on this half-marathon adventure in a spasm of bravery to raise funds and awareness for an amazing charity called Falkirk Autistic Bairns (FAB) who run a weekly drop-in group for children on the Autism Spectrum and their families. In addition to the weekly sessions, the group arranges for day trips, an annual retreat, a surprise (and sensory-friendly) visit from Santa, and always has a variety of sensory activities and toys on hand for those who want and/or need them.
Myself, Hannah, and Mhairi have been attending for years, and Hannah has made several friends here and has grown so much, not only in confidence in herself, but socially, through attending this group. I can honestly and confidently say that FAB have played a big part in my family's Autism journey. At a basic level FAB is a group where families, who understand each others' challenges, meet up and and support one another; and on another important level is a 'safe place' where the kids can just simply be themselves away from the rest of life's (sometimes overwhelming) pressures. Like any other small charity they face challenges on funding for these activities and much-appreciated toys and could use help - whatever the size.
I hope you'll consider this charity, and my personal (insanity) challenge worthy of some of your pounds.
Let's make this fun for you as well - so if you do donate, go ahead and post a guess on my finish time ie. hh:mm.... and don't worry I won't get offended by any of the suggested times - in fact they might spur me on!
Thanks very much for reading,
Kate
