Story
In 2006 my mum died of cancer and I promised myself I would do something to raise money in support of Cancer Research. I have always been interested in marathons, long distance swimming and cycling events and have wanted to run the Marathon des Sables for many years so it was a natural choice to combine fundraising with my passion.
In April 2013 I will be running (and walking) 156 miles through the Moroccan Sahara Desert over 6 days carrying my daily water and provisions (minimum of 9kg in total). The distances range from marathon distance to 50 miles a day over sand dunes and rocky hills. I am relying on my physical and mental strength to get me through the inevitable blisters!
I'm sure you will appreciate this will not be easy and I am sure people can suggest easier ways to raise money for charity, but if running across a desert will make a difference to someone, however large or small, I have the ability and desire to do just that.
I have self funded the entrance fee so all monies donated will go straight to Cancer Research.
