On Tuesday 14th July I am facing my biggest fears - snakes and spiders!  All to help give back to Maggie's for all the help they gave me.

My Story

Monday the 18th of June 2018 is the day I got the news we all dread most. I was told I had cancer.

A million thoughts go through your head. You don’t wish this on anyone else but you do think ‘why me, will I make it’ and, as a single mum, ‘if I don’t, who will look after my boy Olly?’

As I write this we’re more than eighteen months on from diagnosis. I’ve had major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, come through all of that and in May 2019, I was told there were no further traces of cancer.

The truth about fighting cancer is that unless you’ve been through it , you
have no idea what it is like. Everyone round you wants to help and encourage and sound positive but oddly this can all be counterproductive. When someone says a harmless and well meaning, “you look well”, you actually hear “you’re fine, what’s all the fuss about”. You genuinely feel nobody get’s it, nobody understands how frightened you feel inside.

My reaction was to try and bury my feelings and almost look at myself from the outside; to internalise all my fears. That’s not a good idea.
And that’s where Maggie’s came to my rescue. Everyone at Maggie’s ‘gets it’. They’ve seen it all before and many of the people I have met have actually experienced it, just like me. They truly understand.

That’s why I am determined to raise money for Maggie’s so that they can carry on helping thousands more people like me. Please sponsor me and support the wonderful work of Maggie’s.
