Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.

As many of you will know that in March 2019 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, which is devastating news for anyone, but I was determined to this wasn't going to beat me.

My treatment turned out to be relatively straight forward without the need for invasive Chemotherapy.  So,  I carried on with my running regime, built my fitness levels up prior to my operation, I asked doctors and nurses how long I wouldn’t be able to run for post op. I was told minimum of 2 weeks, that hampered some of my planned races. But on schedule 2 weeks after my operation, I completed the Mile End Parkrun whilst visiting my son in London. Three weeks later I completed the toughest race I have ever entered 'The Newlands Fell Race'.  Then came the start of my radiotherapy,  but I continued to run during my treatment and undertook the Ba’that trail Half Marathon over Ilkley Moor, followed by the legendary Hendon Brook just 3 weeks after I completed radiotherapy.  I even managed to get a pb for the course!

It’s hard to describe the emotions you go through following a cancer diagnosis. Initially I was head strong… as usual! But I became completely overwhelmed after my successful operation as realisation began to dawn on me.  I remembered the nurse saying that either they could refer me or I could refer myself to Pendleside Hospice for help and support. I literally turned up on there doorstep one day and the welcome I got was fantastic. They supported me from day one and I have had received treatments there over the last few months. I can’t thank them enough for there support.

As a way of raising awareness and also to give something back to a Pendleside Hospice.  I applied for one of their charity places to run the  London Marathon and I  was fortunate to be offered one of the 5 places to enable me to raise funds for the fantastic charity!

This will be my first every marathon, a distance I said I would never complete, but my motto is now - 'Never say never!'
