Royal Parks Half Marathon 10/2011
Bib No: 5394 Karen ROACH F 44 Time: 02:57:32
Not bad after a year of not running and only adding 40 minutes on to my previous half marathon timing of 02:18 and for a run walk half marathon :-)
Thank you all for your encouragement and donations!!!
After a good rest, I will now have to embark on some serious training for the London Marathon next April.
There is still time to donate! Go on! :-)
For those affected by M.E., they can feel helpless and isolated. Due to the lack of medical knowledge there is no clear path of treatment or care. Not knowing what to do is agonising and there is a desperate search to find effective treatment. As the illness has not yet become fully recognised and understood, the sufferer also becomes excluded from society.
M.E. stands for myalgic encephalomyelitis. The condition is also known as C.F.S. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) which describes more clearly the state of the sufferer, who is permanently exhausted for no diagnosable reason. The illness is usually triggered by a virus. In many cases this leads to serious physical disability and total dependency on others, becoming bed-ridden and housebound.
Some people recover enough to lead a 'normal' life, but the statistics show that worldwide, over 17 million people are suffering from this illness. I wish to help Action for M.E. in their continuing research and provision of support to those who are suffering from the condition.
Action for M.E. is currently looking at producing the UK’s first biobank for research into the illness. A biobank would allow the systematic collection, storage and examination of blood and other tissues from people living with M.E., for the purposes of research. This will support the kind of fundamental research necessary to establish the causes of the illness and develop more effective treatments.
As well as funding research, Action for M.E. produces publications and campaigns hard to raise awareness of M.E. It is committed to do everything within its power to ensure that people with M.E. are provided with advice and support throughout their illness.
