Story
Everyone loves their mothers , and me I'm just the same as everyone else .... My mum is always there for us , she celebrated with us the great and the good , and helped us through the bad and the awful . As kids she raised 4 of us , doing everything and all things that we needed . She taught me to wallpaper and paint ( normally a dads job) she taught us to cook and clean oh yesssss and iron!!! the most hated job , and due to this which actually means I DONT iron now.. lol ....
However a year ago my mum was diagnosed with cancer , a rare kind of skin cancer , and she attacked it like she always does with everything with determination ... those of you who know her , knows that's what she does , its what she taught me .... don't do it half way do it the whole way ..... and she was great , radiotherapy ,,,, a breeze , and yeah every morning she got up even if feeling crap and yeah still got on with it .
She saw her kids every day , her grandkids too , and also her great grandkids who she loves to bits ..... and last September we figured we had it beat !! Yippeeeee we figured remission was a fabulous word, not quite there but no signs of anything so we made plans , big plans , family time , a cruise , and lots of fun ...........................
Until 8 weeks later when accidently she found another lump or two ......... and yes .... it was back !!
Devastation isn't the word ... although , being the mother that she is she did what she always does , she fights ... and she makes us proud.....
But the time has come to enjoy and be with her and allow her the dignity to do what she needs to , its our turn to be strong and to be there ... but as kids , what do we do ? How do we help ? Its a question that we have all asked each other and of ourselves ... for me its this .........
I'm not a runner ( or at least haven't been since I was a kid) so I'm training .... hard..... and its not easy , however like her I'm fighting in my own way , so the gym it is 5 out of 7 days and sometimes 7 cause I have to do this , its my way of giving back , and walking into Maggies' a few weeks ago was one of the toughtest things I've ever done , you see it meant I was admitting to myself that this cancer isn't going away and we aren't going to win ..... They were amazing and supportive and let me just talk and answered the questions that I had. They were just there when needed. I liked that .
So mum I love you with allll my heart and by doing this for you , it means that I have more than the memories that I already have with you , I'm making more for you ..... I want you to be there to see me finish that race and win that medal even if it is only 13 miles ........................ Love you xo
Mum
