Story
Hello & thank you for visiting my first attempt at fundraising!
Since about a year and a half I have been a keen runner, especially enjoying trail runs on Blackheath Common, Surrey, & the surrounding area.
A couple of months ago I spontaneously joined a friend halfway through the London to Brighton walk and ended up walking a marathon. This experience inspired me to attempt to run that distance, so when I saw the Shere 40k advertised, a 25 miles off road walk/run through the Surrey hills, it seemed the perfect opportunity.
For more years than I care to remember, I have loved horses and spent many an hour riding in the Surrey Hills. All the horses I have known, here and in The Netherlands, have all been very well looked after, but there are many that are not and I wanted to use my first fundraiser to help those less fortunate. It was Alice, a long time WHW supporter, who brought the World Horse Welfare Charity to my attention and I am delighted that I can contribute to their efforts to improve the the lives of horses in the UK and around the world through education, campaigning and hands-on care.
With September 14 looming ever closer I am training hard, often with an equine friend on Blackheath. Feels like I am only just beginning to fully realise what an undertaking it will be and I know it will be your pledges of support that will keep me going to the end!
Karel
P.S. And by the way, I'll be running barefoot!
