Story
This Ramadhan I have teamed up with inspirational Professor Shafi Ahmed {Consultant Laporoscopic Colorectal Surgeon} & the amazing charity organisation MAP {MEDICAL AID FOR PALESTINE} help the Palestinian people on the ground in Gaza.
The current situation in Gaza is desperate after a decade of blockade.
Currently 46% of essential drugs are at zero stock, meaning there is less than one months supply left or have already run out completely. These include cancer medications, anti-viral drugs and lung medication for babies in intensive care.
60% of patients requiring medical treatment from Gaza are denied permits to leave the country to get the necessary treatments.
Professor Shafi Ahmed and his team supported by Medical Aid for Palestinians have been on many to trips to Gaza to help treat patients by performing lifesaving surgeries and providing training for the local surgeons.
MAP is an organisation that was founded by some of the most elite surgeons from different parts of the world who came together to help the Palestinians after noticing the immense struggles and hardships they face.
MAP provide critical care to the most needy and vulnerable people.
Due to lack of funding many including babies are at very high risk of death due to lack of medication and healthcare.
Below is a list of where the funds will be put towards:
- £10 for a course of Antibiotics called Ampicillian for one premature baby costs. During 2019, this essential antibiotic has been very high on the list of medicines with less than 1 month's supply left in stock in Gaza's neonatal intensive care units.
- £100 for a course of Antibiotics (mentioned above) could provide treatment for 10 premature babies.
- £75 for Neonatal Self Inflating Bags: - To manage the airways of a newborn baby in those critical first weeks.
- £200 for 10 Neonatal Blood Pressure Cuffs
- £7,500 for a Neonatal Incubator for supporting the first few days of a newborn baby's life. It provides a safe, controlled environment in which the tempreture, humidity and oxygen levels can be controlled.
- £10,000 for an ICU Monitor, which monitors a premature baby's breathing rate, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and the amount of oxygen, carbon dioxide and acidity in the blood.
- £15,000 for a transport incubator to ensure the safe transfer of newborn babies between health facilities who urgently need to be moved to another neonatal unit to receive more specialist care.
