Story
Firstly, THANK YOU for visiting my page.
My reason for doing this is that I just want to put a smile on the face of those children and teenagers who are all battling a life threatening illness.
There is a personal story behind my rationale though. Fortunately, I have not suffered from a life threating illness. However, that is not to say one has not affected me. First it was my dad, I was ten when he died and, at the time, I did not have a clue why. Being ten, I guess, I just did not understand what was going on. It was not something that was discussed a lot in the family either, so it was only in my later life I realised he had died of Cancer and it was only then I dealt with what had happened.
More recently though is my sister; she was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer about six years ago. Fortunately, it was caught early and she eventually beat it, it took it out of her but she won! However, it came back more recently and this time it was Ovarian Cancer. My sister has never been the same since she recovered from the first bout. Most noticeably is that she does not have the same physical strength she once did. And mentally, well I can only imagine how tough it was for her the second time around. Fortunately, she managed to beat it, that’s 2 – 1 against cancer and fingers crossed it stays that way.
Overcoming cancer twice is one hell of an achievement. My sister is in her late thirty’s and she has always been an incredibly strong willed woman and, more often than not, that strength comes with age. So for a child aged 3 to 17, I guess, it can only be a lot tougher, whether they are living with a condition such as Cancer or any one of the other hundreds of life threating illnesses out there.
I have the upmost admiration for every single child and teenager that fights day in day out, and to put a smile on his or her face by making their wish come true is the least I can do (you never know it might help with their battle). For me, I am of the belief that happiness is infectious, when you feel happy; people around you will surely be infected. Infect more people and that will make the world a happier place.
It is with this in mind I ask for a donation; just remember no amount is too small. Your donation will help someone’s dream come true. Click on the link and see some wishes that have already been granted http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/wishes/wish-stories/ .
My fundraising activity will be to take part in a tandem skydive, hopefully at the end of March and I need to raise a minimum of £395 to be able to do it.
The Make a Wish Foundation made over 1000 wishes come true in 2012, and I will be eternally grateful if I could make at least one wish come true in 2014. It is hard to put a price on a wish so the more that is raised the more chance I have of being able to make one come true.
THANK YOU for taking the time to read my story and making a wish come true.
