Story
With every mile you ride, you are protesting against almost 70 years of Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. You are sending a message to the Palestinian people in general, and to the people of Gaza in particular, that they are not abandoned.
Dr Mona El-Farra : Gaza Vice President of the Red Crescent
The Big Ride aims to raise awareness of the Palestinian situation, to highlight the daily violations of human rights the Palestinian people have to endure, and to raise money for sports equipment for traumatised children in Gaza. It is a great act of solidarity, which shows the Palestinian people that they are not forgotten. It is so important that we have the courage and confidence to stand up for Palestine.
The Big Ride 2017 will be marking:
The 3rd anniversary of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in 2014, which killed 2,205 Palestinians, including 547 children;
The 50th anniversary of Israel’s military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip (the Occupied Palestinian Territories) in 1967 when 300,000 Palestinians were made refugees and their villages ethnically cleansed; and
The 10 year illegal siege of Gaza.
The Big Ride 2017 starts on Friday 4th August in Liverpool cycling 44 Miles to Manchester. Day 2 will take in 49 miles from Manchester -> Saddleworth -> Halifax -> and finally Bradford. Day 3 is the final 46 mile push from Bradford to Sheffield.
The Big Ride will be raising money again for the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) to provide sports equipment used in the rehabilitation of traumatised children in Gaza. Show your solidarity and sponsor me taking part in The Big Ride team.
