On 21 March 2010 I will be running the Fleet Half Marathon in aid of Parity for Disability.
As most of you know, I work with Richard, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Rich is profoundly disabled and requires assistance with every aspect of day-to-day life - however he loves to be around people and is well known for his wicked sense of humour and his amazing ability to flirt with hot girls. Rich has many friends but without one-to-one care Rich wouldn't be able to do any of the things he enjoys doing.
This is why Parity for Disability are so fantastic. They provide vital services,
information and support for children and young adults with multiple
disabilities and their families and carers. Each service user is treated with respect and Parity's tailored approach means that the complex needs of each individual are taken into account. Parity provides a safe and yet fun and lively environment for each person to fulfil their potential. With Parity, Rich takes part in lots of activities including cookery, games, days out, music and drama, sensory sessions, and even Indian head massage. No other day centre offers the one-to-one support that allows people with complex needs to be actively involved in so much stuff.
Parity for Disability needs to raise £120,000 every year to continue providing this much-needed service. This is where you come in! I am going to be TORTURING MYSELF running this blooming half marathon so anything you can donate would be hugely appreciated. I'm really, really hoping to raise £500 but every single penny counts! Thank you all so, so much.

A picture of Rich can be found under 'Links - Disability Rights'. Scroll down and he is in the third pic, lying next to the girl in the outsize sunglasses and looking a bit worried!

Check out the course and have a good laugh, go on. (This effect can be maximised by keeping an eye on the weather forecast and laughing loudly if it rains in Fleet on the day!)
