Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
MY daughter Poppy was diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy when she was just 18 months of age. Despite trying many medications with horrendous side effects, Poppy's epilepsy is still uncontrolled. She is currently taking 3 different medications for epilepsy but still has severe seizures. Our precious little girl has been deteriorating and all of her spirit has disappeared. We feel like we have lost our little girl with her strong character and fun loving attitude. At our last hospital appointment, we asked about the ketogenic diet and we were put in touch with Jane, the specialist ketogenic dietician at QMC, Nottingham. This diet seems like a miracle to us and we can not wait to get started. If successful, a child can become seizure free by a carefully monitored diet. It also means that the child can reduce and eliminate their anti epileptic drugs which have horrendous side effects. Unfortunately, due to NHS funding, the diet is not widely available in the UK. We found out that Daisy Garland are a charity that fund dieticians around the UK to initiate the ketogenic diet.Daisy Garland was set up in 2004 after the very sad death of Daisy. Daisy was on the ketogenic diet and her seizures were significantly reduced. Sadly, Daisy passed away in 2004 from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients) Her courageous mum and dad, Sara and David set up the Daisy Garland to help funding of the ketogenic diet for other children like Daisy. We believe Sara and David are truly amazing and they have given us hope for our precious little girl, as well as many other children suffering from uncontrolled epilepsy around the UK.
In September, my sister in law, Erica Creswell and myself will be running the Robin Hood half marathon to raise as much money as possible for this truly amazing charity.
