Story
We are one of the ‘lucky’ families to have had a brain tumour in the family. It wasn’t cancer but an epidermal cyst which was pushing on the brain stem, if left untreated it would’ve eventually caused loss of hearing, vision, speech and movement of the face. There are lots of different types of tumours that can cause so many problems, complications and death.
We’re thankful that surgery in the UK is free, that the skilled surgeons can concentrate for 12 hour long operations and the nurses look after you so well.
But more research is needed…. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.We are the only national charity in the UK focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence.
