Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Running a marathon is something that I have always wanted to do before reaching the age of 40. It is my 40th birthday next year so I've decided to challenge myself and take part in the Liverpool Marathon on Sunday 14th October 2012. Although I used to be very athletic at school and college, I've not done much exercise since the birth of my son in 2005. I did a 5k Race for Life last year and I was exhausted at the end of it so doing the marathon really is a massive challenge for me - but one I am determined to complete!
I am running to try and raise funds for a very worthy charity and one that means a lot to my friend, Emma, and her husband, Steven. Sadly, in September 2008, their long-awaited first child, Zack, was born asleep and they were directed to SANDS for support.
SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society, was set up in 1978 by a few bereaved parents to support each other. Today, not only do they offer support to families affected by the loss of a baby but they also work with health professionals to help improve the aftercare given to bereaved parents, as well as fund research that could help prevent future losses.
Every day, 17 babies are stillborn or die within 28 days of birth. Unfortunately, over 6,200 families have to face this devastation every year. It is much more common than people think.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I understand that times are financially difficult for most right now but any donation, no matter how small, would be very much appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
