Story

Earlier this year we heard the sad news that close friends of ours Kate and Steve had lost their 20 year old son William. He had suffered with anxiety for some time and took his own life.

Feeling helpless, and wanting to do something to remember William by, Jules signed up to run the 2022 London Marathon. She will do this in William’s name for the amazing charity Childline. The charity was set up in 1986 by Esther Rantzen to help kids who were struggling mentally or finding it hard to cope.

It is a sobering statistic that in the UK, the biggest killer of young males is suicide and more needs to be done to combat this. Organisations such as Childline, the Samaritans, Young Minds and many more all do fabulous work but need more funds and support to help to change this statistic.

So, we’d be delighted if you could sponsor her for the marathon and help to make this change.

William leaves a twin brother Tom and it is boys like Tom who will be our future. Let’s support them and never forget William and other boys who find themselves struggling. William will always be loved and won’t ever be forgotten

ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC
