Story
On the 9th of June, we will very sadly say our final farewells to our much loved Dad, Grandad and Great-Grandad who passed away peacefully aged 86.
Always a dog lover, Dad fell in love with Labradors when he and Mum had the honour of giving Sheba her forever home. Sheba, a beautiful fox red Labrador, hadn’t had the best start in life and had been severely neglected in her first home. Fortunately, she was rescued by an animal welfare charity and rehomed by Mum and Dad.
Sheba quickly became the fifth member of our family. She was kind, loyal and, like her namesake, intelligent, clever and wise. We all adored her, but there was always a special bond between Dad and Sheba.
Inevitably, the time came to say goodbye to our dear friend. For twelve wonderful years, Sheba had enriched our lives and made us smile. We were all sad, but her passing left a Sheba-size hole in Dad’s heart.
In later years, Dad found it impossible to walk past a Labrador without giving it a pat - often to the annoyance of guide dog trainers! His face would instantly light up when he saw one and his heart would melt.
Labrador Retriever Rescue Southern England is a charity that gives Labradors a second chance in life, just as Dad did for Sheba. For this reason we can think of no better charity to support in memory of Dad.
