Story
The South Pole is the Holy Grail of Polar Explorers. In 1902, on the brilliantly successful Nimrod Expedition, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his brave men Frank Wild, Eric Marshall and Jameson Adams had to turn back just 97 nautical miles (111 standard miles) from the Pole. Starting from Thiel Mountains (9,300 ft), the place where Shackleton turned back, Julian will be part of David Hempleman-Adams (the first person to reach all Poles and the seven summits) ten man team that aims to complete the Nimrod Expedition; to stand at the Geographic South Pole, the goal Shackleton was to find so elusive. Through katabatic winds of up to 80mph, temperatures as low as -40C and potential snowstorms, Julian will be participating in this expedition in November (2011), raising sponsorship for charities.
