Story
Hello and thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
I have (somewhat ambitiously!) signed up to run the London Marathon on 22 April 2012 for Alzheimer Scotland.
This charity is very important to me, both for personal reasons and because this degenerative illness is sadly so prevalent with the increasingly aging population, corroding mental and physical abilities and self worth. My maternal grandmother, Frances Smith, passed away from Alzheimer's in November, having struggled with the disease for many years and this was also the underlying cause of my paternal grandmother's death ten years ago this year.
Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease, drug treatments are available that can temporarily alleviate some symptoms or slow down their progression. The provision of this medicine, care and the ongoing research which Alzheimer Scotland facilitates is invaluable to those suffering from Alzheimer's as well as to people like me who have seen loved ones suffer from the disease. Your kind donations will help in many ways. £50 can fund a day of respite care and £100 can help towards a bath lift so that a loved one can be cared for at home for as long as possible.
I know that you will no doubt be inundated with fundraising requests, but please give what you can to this very worthy cause.
And, in return, I make no promises about my time, but I will do my best to drag myself aroung the 26.2 mile course in one piece!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
