Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My cousin Howard died this year and he was a keen runner. He was only 52 and the cancer spread rapidly through his body after he was diagnosed in July last year. He'd moved to Edinburgh in 2014 and we had some lovely times with him here so I wanted to do something in his memory.
But I have another, ulterior motive. A friend of mine signed me up for this run when I was a student at Newcastle University. At the time my ankle was pretty weak (I injured it doing a parachute jump) and with all the training, it gave out on me 3 weeks before the run. I ended up half running, half limping the 13 miles from Newcastle to the coast. I'm up for crushing it on the second attempt (hahaha).
I've not run anything like this distance since. I run, but pretty much always 5k. I did a 10k in 2016 which was a bit of a struggle, but nothing long since. I did 9k up in the Highlands over the weekend and practically died, but I'd love to be able to actually run the whole distance. So I'm starting on my journey of longer and longer distances. Rob and Joe have promised to come and support from the roadside.
Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s. Older people are some of the poorest people in the UK and the loneliest; their charities the least well funded. Parkinson's UK is the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity and they are leading the work to find a cure. They also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services. Their work is totally dependent on donations.
Anything you can donate would be much appreciated.
