Judy, David, Emma and Thomas Ramm will be walking 10K on Saturday 11th May on the South Downs in memory of my brother Paul who sadly and suddenly died in September last year after a short illness. He was 51 and has left behind his wife Kathy and their two sons John and James. My Mum, Dad, Sister, cousins and friends are joining together to remember Paul and to raise funds for pancreatic research. We will be aged from 6 years up to 80 years! We have two large hills to navigate so may not be the fastest group but are determined to make it to the end!
Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death and has the highest death rate of all. There is no early detection and treatment is limited. Because symptoms are initially vague and generally don't apear until the disease is well advanced, the average survival time after diagnosis is 6 months. This is what happened to my brother. Despite this, research is underfunded compared with other types of cancer. We would like to raise money for the Pancreatic Research Fund to help advance understanding and earlier detection of this cancer so that other families will not have to suffer what my brother went through and to give these people a fighting chance.
