Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving Site. Having got to this point you will already know that I have committed to run the 2012 London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Those of you who know me well, will also know that I am not, have never been, a natural athlete! I started running, well more jogging, some 7 years ago after being cajoled into doing the Race for Life for Breast Cancer Care by the owner of the Day Nursery Lewis attended!
Since then I have kept going, usually only managing a run on a Saturday and Sunday morning with one or both of my running buddies, Lynn and Catherine. More often than not suffering from the excesses of the night before!
There have been times over the last 7 years when I have been more focussed and I have completed 3 half marathons, the last one in October of this year.
The training programme for the marathon is really going to test my willpower and resilience as someone helpfully pointed out, it is twice as far as a half (I did actually know that!), and a fundamentally different challenge! (I guessed that was the case!)
Running for Macmillan keeps me focussed and gets me out of bed when it’s dark, cold and wet. The work of Macmillan makes a massive difference to people’s lives. 42% of people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer. Macmillan‘s goal is to make sure that no one ever has to face it alone. I have been lucky enough to spend time with people working for Macmillan and, to hear some of the stories of those they have supported. They really do make a vital difference.
You can find out more about their work at www.macmillan.org.uk
I do hope you feel able to give something, any amount would be fantastic. Thank you from me, and from Macmillan.
