Story
Uganda is one of the worst countries in the world for access to clean water, with over 26 million people (66% of the population) chronically affected. More than 5200 children die every year from inadequate water, sanitisation and hygiene.
Over time I hope to raise £5000 for 'Just A Drop', a charity founded in 1998 to work with rural communities on sustainable water projects including wells, pipelines, sand dams and rainwater systems. To date they have supported projects in 32 countries, reaching some 1.5 million people.
As well as supporting a dedicated Well Project in Uganda I hope, in my own small way, to raise awareness - including within my own family and circle of friends - of the conditions faced by those in less fortunate parts of the world.
To start the giving, I plan to make donations to the project myself. Instead of buying gifts for friends and family I will donate an equivalent amount - they have been warned! I hope that everyone involved will understand and reciprocate; instead of gifts, cards will be lovely!
My grandchildren also intend to raise money, by their own efforts , to donate. They, and any children you have or know, are the future so it is especially important that they are aware of this.
Just A Drop is a registered charity and all of the money I raise will qualify for UK Gift Aid.
I do appreciate your support.
