This little boy here used to be me. Back then I fell down the stairs and broke my arm on Christmas Eve. I had to spend the night at the hospital waking up there on Christmas morning. I was taken care of really well and was even given Christmas presents. This is the kind of service they wouldn't even dream about affording in Africa.
Now that I am mostly grown up (but not any more intelligent) I have become involved with the Just Walk 60K challenge in aid of African Palliative Care. This trek will start at 8am and finish at around midnight with, apparently, blistered and bleeding feet. The distance is the equivalent of walking from London to Reading.
Sponsorships would be received more gratefully than my christmas stocking in hospital. Please do, it only takes a minute, or why not join in and hike with me?
This charity brings palliative support to thousands of people in Africa who are living with terminal illness. As there is little medical support available in this region, these people would otherwise be enduring months and years of increasing pain. Thankfully APCA has established a region-wide network to train and financially support local care givers, so that the terminally ill needn't suffer unneccesarily during their remaining time on this earth, and enabling them to continue caring for their families while they still can.
