Story
At the end of June 2024 I’ll be competing in the Long Course Weekend in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. This is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and Marathon in beautiful, but unfortunately not flat, West Wales 🏴.
I’m using this as an opportunity to raise some money for the health board charity, and specifically, for the lung cancer charity.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the UK (accounting for nearly as many deaths as the next 3 combined). Nearly 40% of patients present for the first time as an emergency admission which conveys a worse prognosis and more advanced disease, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis.
The monies raised will go to the lung cancer charity to help raise awareness, achieve earlier diagnoses and support patients throughout their lung cancer journey. As one of the lung cancer doctors in the health board I’ve got first hand experience of how important this all can be to patients.
As a lung cancer service, we’ve recently been supported by thousands of pounds of charities monies to purchase new bronchoscopy equipment that will allow us to biopsy even smaller and more distant tumours & hopefully achieve earlier diagnosis and curative treatment for more patients. This money really does make a huge difference.
Any support is much appreciated; I’ll try post some updates of the weekend on Instagram/Facebook (@jonathanfisherblack) or feel free to come and laugh/support in person!
