Story
This is the third year I am cycling with the Big Ride and the cause is the same, justice in Palestine. I am using the same Just Giving page as in 2016, so whatever you give adds to the amount I collected last year.
There are many injustices in the World, but Britain bears singular responsibility for Palestine. It started with "triple-dealing" during the First World War, with HMG making incompatible commitments to the Arabs, Zionist Jews and the French. This year is of particular significance, as it is the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration of 1917, and the 50th Anniversary of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Since that happened in 1967, Britain has signally failed to stand up to Israel's theft of natural resources, settlement building, house demolitions, etc., at the expense of the indigenous people.
I shall be cycling, firstly, to raise money to buy sports equipment for a children's charity in Gaza, and secondly, to draw attention to the problem. In asking you to support this cause, I provide no excuse for violent actions on the Palestinian side, but simply point out that the primary violence in this conflict is that inflicted by an occupier armed to the teeth - and which enjoys tacit British support.
