Story
Thanks for taking a look at my JustGiving page for the bike ride in June 2017.
This will be my 4th bike ride in the last 7 years to raise money for HIPZ - and my third time lapping Zanzibar on 2 wheels. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me in the past - the bike rides have made a huge difference to our finances at HIPZ, and enabled us to continue to provide an ever improving service at Kivunge & Makunduchi Hospitals.
HIPZ requires just 46 pence per patient per year. This is possible due to our unique partnership with the local government - it means that every penny donated makes an enormous difference to us. I am paying all my own costs for the bike ride, so 100% of your donation goes towards our work in Zanzibar.
HIPZ has now been working on Zanzibar for just over 10 years - at our 2 hospitals, we are now responsible for providing healthcare for just over 250,000 people. Before HIPZ, the hospitals were in a bad state, but are now functioning well, with the HIPZ funded Primary Healthcare Units, a comprehensive maternity service (including Caesarean sections), operating theatres, renovated wards etc. In the last few years, HIPZ has begun a psychiatric service, improved dental care provision, started a clinic for managing high blood pressure - and there are many other areas that need further improvement.
