Story
I'm raising money in memory of my Dad David. He passed away in 2010 and for the last 3 years of his life suffered from vascular dementia. The Alzheimer's Society support people living with dementia and their carers. They also are at the forefront of funding research into how it's treatment can be improved and advanced.
There are currently 800,000 people in the UK living with dementia, this is expected to rise to over a million by 2021. With our increasingly ageing population, the current figure of 1 in 3 people over 65 developing dementia underlines the urgency of the Society's work.
They run over 2,000 local services across England, Northern Ireland and Wales that provide information and support to people affected by dementia. These include Singing for the Brain, Dementia Cafes, carer support groups, befriending services, and Dementia Advisers to name just a few.
