Story
80 Degrees South is the campaign created by John Killingworth in support for Breast Cancer Care, in memory of his Mum Bernadette Killingworth. We are trying to create awareness and sponsorship to promote this form of cancer which affects both men and women all over the world.
Our fund-raising aim is to raise a massive £50,000 for Breast Cancer Care. John is planning to achieve this by running a Marathon in Antarctica . This Marathon has only been accomplished by 19 people from the UK and in 2012 it will only be the 8th time that this Marathon has been run and John will be there!!
Not only will John have to contend with the pressures of running 26mile, but also with temperatures of -12 to -20 degrees and with a strong katabatic winds rushing down from the Ellsowrth Mountains.
John has been devoted to raising money for Breast Cancer Care over the last three years. He has managed to raise £12,000 so far by completing The London Marathon, New York Marathon and numerous half Marathon’s in 2009. In 2011 he is planning to run the London and Berlin Marathon.
