Story
John was a remarkable life force. It is no understatement to say that he was an exceptional teacher, bringing his larger-than-life personality to drive every pupil he taught to be the best they can be. His passion shone through, infecting all those in the staff room and those he mentored. He was loved by parents and maybe more importantly, by the pupils he taught. Tributes have poured in, all saying these words: the best, amazing, a legend, generous, inspiring, memorable, passionate, beautiful, kind, loving, funny. So, so many are thanking him for helping shape who they are today.
His passion for education was matched by his love of sport. His beloved Bristol City and Somerset were never far from his mind or his remote! I know he treasured his time at Godalming Cricket, being that beautiful, kind, funny and generous presence in the changing room. When he wasn't behind the stumps, he could be found on the course at Hindhead, mainly in the rough if I can be so cheeky!
Now to the reason for this page. In his final time at the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Surrey, he received faultless, compassionate and amazing care. The work they do is simply stunning. His wife, Jane, and his daughters want to recognise the stellar work they do by raising funds as a way of saying thank you to them.
I hope you feel, by way of recognising a man that was so commanding, influential and loving, that you are able to find a way to donate whatever you can to a charity that have done so much for the family. Thank you.
