We're running to raise funds for medical research into Alzheimer's disease and for Alzheimer Scotland. So please donate whatever you can towards this great occasion .......because we might not be able to do it again after this !
I read an article a few months back which said that Alzheimer's is one of the charities with the lowest amount of funding for research into what causes it and how it could be treated. So I thought, why don't I get off my bum, drag my poor dad along and go do something about this. We want to raise money for this cause because there are people out there who have the disease that need constant care which isn't always available; but we also want to help fund the research so that one day there might be a cure to this life destroying disease. The condition of Alzheimer's (a form of Dementia) is a subject very close to our family because my Nana contracted the disease about 10 years ago. Since then the disease has slowly killed most of the cells in her brain and wiped her memory, so that today she is very different from the get-go Nana who used to look after me. She is 84 and well cared for in her care home at Kemnay, but it is very sad to see a once sociable and independent lady no longer able to speak coherently, or do anything at all for herself due to this cruel disease. Nana is still aware of what goes on around her and manages to smile every now and then, as if to say "there is nothing I can do about what has happened to me, and I can't talk to you, but at least I can give you a smile".
My Nana was a great walker and would think nothing of walking from her home in Hazlehead to Footdee and back on a fine day. That's actually more than we have to run so we will be happy to do it for her and people like her.
Please give whatever you can. Even a little does definitely help!
