Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I completed the Edinburgh Marathon on 22nd May but there is still time to donate and the reason I took on the challenge is below.
Following surgery in March 2010 to remove an enlarged lymph node/parotid gland I was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. After the initial diagnosis I was referred to my local cancer unit at the Lister Hospital where I was introduced to my Macmillan Nurse. The information and support that she provided was invaluable and helped reduce some of the stress associated with being told that you have cancer. Following treatment I am now fit and well and will be visiting Mount Vernon Cancer Unit for the next five years after which time, providing all goes to plan, I'll be back to the Lister for the duration.
Having been an active athlete from an early age, I decided to run my first ever marathon in Edinburgh on May 22nd 2011 to help raise funds for the Macmillan support team so that they can support others who have found themselves in the same position as me. The knowledge that Macmillan will always be there if I need them is a great comfort to my family and me.
Unfortunately since taking on this challenge, my wife Catherine has, in April 2011, been diagnosed with bowel cancer so my reason for raising funds for Macmillan is even greater now.
