Story
I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in July 2022 after being persuaded by my family to take a PSA blood test. While this came as quite a shock, the positive side to this was, the cancer had been caught at an early stage. This was followed by numerous visits to the Urology Department in Cheltenham General hospital over the following few months for multiple tests. On the 26th September 2022, I was admitted to hospital for a major operation to remove the Prostate in the hope of destroying the cancerous tumour, Thankfully, In early January this year I was finally informed by my consultant that I was now Cancer Free. As a precaution, I will be monitored by the Urology team on a regular basis over the next few years in the hope that the cancer has not returned. With the help and support of my Family, Friends, Work Colleagues and the Urology team at Cheltenham General Hospital, this helped me stay positive, focused and in control of my life, putting me mentally in a place of calm during this worrying time.
I would like to share my appreciation, and thank you all for your support and kind comments during my time of crisis. Staying positive and in control during this time, gave me the belief that I would beat this awful disease. This is why I have decided to run the London Half Marathon and raise the much needed funds to help in the much needed research carried out by Prostate Cancer UK. My one hope is that my fellow male colleagues will after reading this, be proactive in visiting your local GP surgeries to ask for a PSA blood test, as doing this simple task today could save you joining me on the journey I have just undertaken tomorrow. Thank You.
