Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

BASICS Essex Accident Rescue Service (BEARS) is a registered medical charity which provides pre-hopital emergency medical care in Essex.

Composed of doctors and paramedics, the team give their time voluntarily, responding on behalf of The East of England Ambulance Service Trust to life-threatening emergencies that occur across the length and breath of Essex.

They provide this service in their own vehicles for which the charity fund the instalation of blue lights and warning sirens and all emergency equipment, drugs and individual protective clothing and helmets.

The team are all very experienced, highly trained health professionals who care passionatly about the role they perform, occaisionally in very challenging environments. I am proud to count myself amongst their number.

But this services is not cheap and the scheme receives no central Government funding. All the equipment, drugs and general running costs rely heavily on the generosity of the population of Essex for donations.

In November 2014, my aim will be to raise much needed funds for BEARS by completing The Everest Trail Race, Nepal; 160km in 5 days at altitudes of upto 5000 meters.

It will be a massive challenge to me although I am not a newcomer to such endurance events.

In 2009 I competed what is often referred to as "The toughest footrace in the World", the Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands), running 205km in 4 days across the Moroccan Sahara, carrying 10kgs of food and equipment.

The Everest Trail Race poses different challenges, associated with altitude which I have not encountered before.

This challenging event will not only bring the reward in terms of funds raised for the charity but, as a keen climber who has long dreamed of visiting Nepal, I will be personally rewarded by the running amongst some of the greatest mountains on the planet.

The biggest challenge for me is not physical but financial.

Please give what you can to support me and the charity.
